HP LaserJet P2055 Printer Output Quality

Regarding output quality, the P2055dn ratings are better than the Lexmark E260dn overall but not as well as the Samsung ML-2851ND. Compared to monochrome lasers generally, it is solid on text, the same level for pictures, and a touch substandard for video.

Over half of the font styles in our text collection qualified as both easily understandable and well formed at 5 factors. One font style needed 20 elements to certify as well-developed, but just because of a personality spacing issue. Also, that font style was easily understandable at 5 factors. Unless you have a unique need for well-formed font styles at small sizes—for desktop computer publishing, for example—you should not have any grievances about the text.

Video and photo output looked better at the default resolution setting than at the highest resolution—something I've seldom seen with any printer. With the default setups, the tester saw some posterization (with shading changing all of a sudden where it should change gradually), noticeable dithering through mild patterns, and a propensity for slim lines to vanish (a problem that shows up with most printers). With the highest resolution, the dithering in gradients transformed into an irritating pattern of bands.

In default resolution, the video suffices for interior business use, although the tester might hesitate to use the output for, say, PowerPoint handouts. Pictures in default resolution suffice to print identifiable images from Internet web pages or use in products, such as customer e-newsletters. For both video and photographs, the highest-resolution setting is best avoided.
