Epson TM-T20x Ink

The Epson TM-T20X is a thermal printer, which means it uses heat to print instead of ink. Therefore, it does not require any ink cartridges.

However, it does use thermal paper. Thermal paper is a special type of paper that changes color when exposed to heat. The printer creates an image by selectively heating different parts of the paper.

There are two different types of thermal paper: direct thermal and thermal transfer.

  • Direct thermal paper is coated with a special dye that turns black when heated. This is the most common type of thermal paper used for receipts.
  • Thermal transfer paper is coated with a wax layer. When the wax is heated, it melts and adheres to a ribbon, which is then pressed onto the paper to create an image. Thermal transfer paper is more durable than direct thermal paper and is often used for printing labels.
