HP LaserJet Enterprise 600 Printer M601 Series Printer

The HP LaserJet Enterprise 600 Printer M601DN ($899 direct) is both a workhorse and a racehorse. This single-function printer can handle the monochrome printing needs of a hectic workgroup, producing web pages at a prodigious rate.

It is slower than the HP LaserJet Enterprise 600 Printer M603N ($1,499 direct, 4 celebrities), with which it shares most of its specifications, and neither can handle relatively as high printing quantities. But the M601DN brings nearly as much for a significantly lower price.

It is enough to share the Editors' Choice for midrange monochrome printer with the Lexmark T650N ($700 road, 4 stars), which offers comparable features at a lower price.

The M601DN measures 15.7 by 16.3 by 20 inches (HWD) and evaluates 58 extra pounds. The front panel has a four-line monochrome LCD and some basic control switches: Home, Help, Quit, and Back, plus a two-way rocker control with a facility switch. Beneath the panel is a port for a USB thumb own.

The M601DN has a standard 600-sheet paper capacity, between a 500-sheet main tray and a 100-sheet multi-purpose feeder, and consists of an automated duplexer for printing on both sides of a sheet of paper.

(A non-duplexing variation, the M601N, is also available for $699 road.) Additional paper-handling options are available to bring the paper capacity to an optimum of 3,600 sheets. Options consist of a 1,500-sheet input tray ($499 direct), a 500-sheet input tray ($299), a 400-sheet custom media cassette ($229 direct), a 75-sheet envelope feeder ($249), a 500-sheet stacker ($149), a 500-sheet stapler/stacker ($249), and a 500-sheet mailbox ($399).

Tester timed the M601DN on our business applications collection (using QualityLogic's software and hardware for timing), at an efficient 13.4 web pages each min (ppm), according to its 45-page each min ranked speed that is based upon printing text documents without video or photos—our test collection consists of text web pages, video web pages, and web pages with mixed content.

It is a bit slower than the 14.3 ppm kipped down by the HP LaserJet M603N, ranked at 62 ppm. The OKI B730DN ($1,299 direct, 4 celebrities) was evaluated at 12 ppm, while the Lexmark T650N was available at 10 ppm.
